| In 1968, with the support of a group of motivated citizens, Rev. Mike Smathers of the Presbyterian Church was
sent as an envoy to Frankfort to seek aid from the State Department of Libraries in establishing a library in Owsley County.
|
| Since that time the library has been a local resource for information and youth programs. In 2010, through state funding
programs, a new facility was constructed on New KY HWY 11 in Booneville. The facility is 7,000 square feet and is a welcome addition to the
downtown area. It inventories over 31,045 volumes and has an annual circulation of 18,128 transactions.
|
| The library is currently constructing an Outdoor Reading Garden that is scheduled to be completed
during the Summer of 2010. This is just one of the new programs that will be offered with many more to come!
|
| Stop by and see for yourself. The staff at the library will
be happy to show you around and assist you.
