Fund For Excellence
|
| |
| The original idea for the Fund for Excellence came from Daniel H. Barrett, the former Chairman of
the Owsley County Action Team. Convinced that raising the aspirations of Owsley County youth was an effective means
of achieving long term economic development and an enriched quality of life, several citizens met and began to organize
and plan for the future. The Fund for Excellence has as its mission:
|
| • |
To raise the aspirations of Owsley County youth in the areas of educational attainment, school attendance, academic
success, community responsibility, and education as life long learning. |
| |
| Utilizing funds provided by the Action Team, the Fund for Excellence applied for and received non profit
status under section 501 (a) of the Internal Revenue Code as an organization described in section 501 (c)(3). The Owsley
County Fund for Excellence is in the process of raising money for several projects, such as:
|
| • |
Investment funds for the 7th grade Owsley County High students (students must graduate to enjoy the
proceeds), |
| • |
Endowment funds (these funds will not be spent but the interest or income will be spent for scholarships
or other projects as designated by the donors), |
| • |
Rewards for attendance, hard work, good grades, and community service, |
| • |
Mini grants for teachers and students to do special projects. |
| |
| The Owsley County Fund for Excellence operates under the idea that we, Owsley Countians, can make a
difference in the lives of Owsley County youth. The Owsley County Fund for Excellence is an inclusive organization which
does not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, creed etc. |
